Seminars

Within the framework of the GORIZ program, AGBU Europe organizes high level annual seminars regarding topics of participants’ interest, including economic and political issues related to Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora, lobbying, media training and leadership. The seminars include an array of activities:

  • Conferences with high level experts or political decision makers;
  • Media training with experienced journalists;
  • Best practices exchanges;
  • Project development;
  • Social gatherings;
  • Meetings with community leaders;
  • Cultural visits; and
  • Discovery of Armenian communities and institutions in Europe.

Armenian Cultural Heritage   Istanbul Seminar Focuses on Armenian Communities in Turkey

October 31 to November 3, 2013
Instanbul, Turkey

Themes: Collaborating with Armenians in Turkey.

Objectives:

  • A meeting with members of the preservation and promotion of Armenian cultural heritage in Turkey.
  • Discussions with Armenian journalists and editors, including the newspaper AGOS, founded by Hrant Dink.
  • A panel discussion with leading intellectuals regarding the changing context of government and civil society in Turkey.
  • A session on the challenges faced by Armenian foundations which are responsible for all Armenian institutions in Turkey (churches, schools and hospitals).
  • Discussions on the evolution of Armenian schools in Turkey.
  • Meetings and working-groups with Istanbul-based Armenian Youth and student organizations.

     
EU Eastern Partnership Training on Communication and the Media   EU Eastern Partnership Training on Communication and the Media

Themes: Communication & the Media

Objectives:

  • Examine the function and scope of media and explore the issue of the freedom of the press;
  • Train participants on best practices for communicating Armenian issues or their individual Armenian projects to the to the media and in front of a camera;
  • Provide information on AGBU media strategies and introduce AGBU tools to promote their projects inside AGBU network;
  • Offer the opportunity to present their Armenian projects to AGBU Europe Board.

Participants: 22 participants from 10 countries (Armenia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, Turkey, UK and Ukraine).

This seminar was funded with the support of the "Youth in Action" program from the European Commission.

     
Youth Active Participation in Europe Seminar   Youth Active Participation in Europe Seminar

Themes: Youth and active political citizenship, participation in political life and EU institutions

Objectives:

  • Develop collaborative projects aiming at increasing participation of young people in political life;
  • Reinforce participants’ ability to implement projects in this realm by training and providing them with available resources;
  • Raise awareness of and brainstorm on the theme of "political active citizenship";
  • Exchange experience and best practices with politics and deciders on possible participation actions in democratic instances at local, regional and international levels;
  • Increase knowledge on the role and activities of the European institutions, possible actions and resources in Europe.

Participants: 13 participants from 8 countries (Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Romania and Ukraine).

Themes: Democracy and active participation.

Objectives:

  • Make the future leaders aware of the importance of Democracy;
  • Reinforce the dialogue between the youth and Armenian politicians and deciders;
  • Inform and make participants think about the concept of « youth participation »;
  • Initiate collaborative projects and develop a network of contacts between the participants.

Participants: 18 people from 8 countries (Armenia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, Turkey, Syria).

Themes: Lobbying and major political issues related to Armenia (economic and political.

Objectives:

  • Provide participants with a better understanding of significant political issues related to Armenia;
  • Train participants on lobbying strategies, conception and implementation;
  • Deepen the network and provide exposure to unique facets of the Armenian presence in Venice.

Participants: 20 people from 5 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain).
